Day One

The kids and I decided to participate in the "Garden in a Wheelbarrow" program for the county fair.  It is a free program to teach kids about organic gardening.  The fair provides the wheelbarrow, dirt, seeds, and a small curriculum to teach the kids about growing vegetables.  This year the kids were provided the following seeds to plant: lettuce, onions, peppers, sugar peas, and radish. In two months, we will take our completed garden (in our wheelbarrow) to the fair to be on display.  After the week, we will bring it home and harvest the garden and make a big salad.

Today we added the dirt to our wheelbarrow and soaked it really well to set the dirt.  It is supposed to rain the next two days, so our dirt should be nice and set.  Tuesday we will get out and plant onion seeds.  Onions take between 80-85 days to harvest, so we need to get those in the garden first.
