Explode the Code: I pulled lessons that included oa, ow vowels combinations. Emily is doing really well working independently with this program. The lessons are only taking her 5-10 minutes a day. Ashley still doesn't trust herself on sounding out some words, but in general she does it on her own.
Saxon: Both girls completed 3 lessons in their Saxon program. The are both doing really well. Memorizing math facts are still not their strong points. During this weeks lesson, Ashley began measuring lines to the inch. Another big milestone for her was beginning double digit adding. Emily is still slowly progressing. She began to to add three sets of double digits at one time this week. This was very confusing for her, but her special ed teacher did really well explaining to her.
Science: We continued to work on measuring weather. The girls put a jar outside to catch the rain. Each day we brought it in to measure. We are creating a graph to show the months rain results.
History: We started book 3 of American Girl Addy. We continue to discuss the slavery and the civil war.
Progressive Phonics: Jake completed the first book with this program. We worked on the letters o,d,g. He had a couple of worksheets to trace the letters, a memory game, and a story to read with me. He learned how to read the word dod and dog in the story. Over all he enjoyed his school work.
Wednesday Night Church
Art: The girls decided to do some painting for art. The spent about a hour in the school room together laughing, talking, and painting. It was wonderful to hear them getting along so well.
